What is LED neon signage?

LED neon signage is flexible LED strip encased in a soft silicone or PVC sleeve, shaped by hand to follow your lettering or logo, then mounted onto a backing board. It gives you the same continuous glowing line as traditional glass neon, but without the glass tubing, the pressurised gas or the high-voltage transformer. Because the sleeve diffuses the light evenly, the line looks solid rather than a row of dots.

Most Singapore businesses now choose LED neon over glass for practical reasons. It runs on low voltage, stays cool enough to touch, survives knocks that would shatter glass, and draws a fraction of the power. It is also far easier to transport and install in a tight shop unit or a lift lobby. Chinese character and double happiness neon signs

Chinese lettering is one of the harder things to get right in neon, and it is where imported signs most often disappoint. Strokes have to keep their proper weight and spacing, and a character bent carelessly reads as wrong to anyone who can actually read it. We set out the characters properly before any bending starts, and we will show you the layout at full size first.

The double happiness character is our most requested single piece, mostly for weddings and for restaurants that want something recognisably traditional in a modern material. We also make shop names, auspicious phrases and family names in both simplified and traditional forms, in red, gold-toned warm white, or a colour matched to the rest of your branding. If you are pairing it with a traditional signboard, we can match the colour across both pieces.

Design options and what drives the spec

Most of the cost and most of the look comes down to four choices. Getting these settled early is what keeps a quote accurate.

Backing board: clear acrylic for a floating look, cut-to-shape to follow your letters, or a solid colour panel for maximum contrast
Sleeve colour: warm white, cool white, red, pink, blue, green, amber, purple, or a mix across one piece
Sign size: measured by the overall board, not the letter height, so a wide logo costs more than a tall one of the same character count
Mounting: wall standoffs, flush mount, hanging chain or free standing on a base
Control: on and off switch, dimmer, remote, or wired into an existing timer so it turns itself off overnight

Indoor or outdoor: which build you need

Indoor LED neon is the standard build and suits anything behind glass or under cover. If the sign is going somewhere it can be rained on, splashed during cleaning, or exposed to direct afternoon sun, you need the outdoor build, which uses a sealed sleeve, a weatherproof housing for the driver, and marine grade fixings so the mounts do not rust and streak your wall.

The honest trade-off is cost. An outdoor build typically runs noticeably more than the indoor equivalent of the same size. It is worth it if the position genuinely gets weather, and a waste if the sign sits two metres inside a covered shopfront. We will tell you which one your position actually needs when we come and look, rather than defaulting you to the more expensive build.

LED neon sits across that range depending mostly on how much tube length your design needs, which is driven by letter count and script complexity rather than board size alone.

Plenty of neon sold in Singapore is ordered from overseas listings and drop shipped. It is usually cheaper on the sticker, and for a simple English word in a common colour it can be perfectly fine. The problems show up with anything bespoke.

What you give up is the proof stage and the recourse. You approve a small image on a screen rather than a scaled layout, so kerning, stroke weight and true colour are a gamble, and Chinese characters especially tend to come back subtly wrong. If a section fails in month four, you are shipping it back rather than having someone come out. There is also no one to check the mounting surface or the power position before it arrives, which is where most installation surprises come from. Making it locally costs more up front and removes those risks.

Power, installation and looking after it

LED neon runs on low voltage through a driver, so the sign itself is safe to be near. The driver still has to be connected to mains supply, and in Singapore any permanent mains connection should be done by a licensed electrical worker. We position the driver where it can be reached for servicing rather than sealing it somewhere awkward.

Maintenance is close to nothing. Wipe the sleeve with a damp cloth when it gets dusty and avoid solvent cleaners, which cloud the silicone. LED emitters commonly last well beyond 30,000 hours of use, and the driver is usually the first part to need replacing rather than the tube. If a section does stop lighting, it can normally be repaired in place rather than remade, which is a real advantage over glass.

One thing worth checking early: signage fixed to a building facade, projecting over a walkway, or on a conservation shophouse may need approval, and your landlord or mall management will usually have their own signage guidelines. Licensing, insurance and warranty

An LED neon sign runs at low voltage, but the driver still connects to mains supply, and in Singapore that connection should be made by a BCA-Licensed Electrical Worker. We hold that licence, so the sign is built, installed and connected by the same team in one visit rather than needing a separate electrician booked afterwards.

We carry public liability insurance for all on-site work. Fabrication is warranted for 12 months and installation for 6 months, and those terms are written on your quote. Because the tubing is modular, most warranty issues are resolved by servicing the affected section in place rather than remaking the sign.

Can you make my logo exactly, or only text?

We bend to whatever artwork you can supply. Send vector artwork if you have it, or a clean high-resolution image and we will redraw it. Very fine detail and thin strokes are the one real limit, because the tube has a minimum bend radius. We will tell you honestly if part of a logo will not translate well and suggest how to simplify it without losing the brand.

Can LED neon signs go outside?

Yes, with the outdoor build. That uses a sealed IP65 rated sleeve, a weatherproof driver housing and corrosion resistant fixings. Standard indoor units should not be used anywhere they can be rained on or washed down. If you are unsure whether your position counts as sheltered, we will assess it during the site visit.

Do you make Chinese character and double happiness neon signs?

Yes, in both simplified and traditional forms.
